Macquarie Lighthouse is Australia’s oldest lighthouse being build in 1818 to guide ships entering the Heads. The Lighthouse is a wonderful place with 360 degree view including magnificent northwest over Sydney Harbour and east out over the Pacific Ocean. No matter what you want to do whether it is soak up a little history, have a magnificent backdrop for your wedding or just have a nice day out with a picnic this spot has it all.

Opening Hours:

The Macquarie Light House grounds are open to the public every day of the year.

The Lighthouse building is open for guided tours every two months. Booking are essential.

Please note there are a number of privately leased cottage in the area and public access is not permitted.

Macquarie Lighthouse Tour Information

Time: Tours depart between 10 am – 4 pm (depending on booking time and take approximately 20 minutes.

Tour Start from: Macquarie Lighthouse, Old South Head Road, Vaucluse.

Please note the tour takes you to the top of the lighthouse and you will be required to climb 100 stairs.

What to Bring:

Camera
Sunhat and Sunscreen or wet weather gear depending on the conditions
Comfortable Shoes as this is a big day out with lots of walking.
Optional: Food and drink as there is no shops on in the Lighthouse local area
ATM- NOT available in local area.

Access: Most of the areas around the lighthouse have wheelchair available however this is a natural environment and some of the surfaces are uneven. The lighthouse interior has a steep climb of 100 steps to reach the top.

Perfect setting for your wedding:

Headland Park on Middle Head offers some spectacular outdoor settings in which to hold your wedding. All offer beautiful harbour views and tranquil bushland surroundings with areas of green lawn. there is a venue hire fee depending on the location you choose however there is no photography fee.

How to get there:

Buses: Sydney buses operate a service to Vaucluse every day. The 324 links Circular Quay to Watsons Bay via Vaucluse. Alight at the bus stops located near the lightstation on Old South Head Road.

Ferry: Sydney Ferries run between Circular Quay and Watsons Bay every day. Once embarking at Watsons Bay there is a walk of approximately 1.5 km up to the lighthouse or you can catch bus 324 from Watsons Bay.

Parking: Limited parking is available in the surrounding streets.
