Sydney Activities - Luna Park1) Luna Park

Luna Park is an iconic feature on Sydney’s Harbour foreshore located near the northern pylon of the Sydney Harbour Bridge which was first opening in 1935.  Luna Park is a fun day out for the whole family with 20+ fun rides (some can be closed for renovations) and lots of activities for the whole family.

Even though Luna Park has FREE entry you are required to pay for food, drinks and rides.  How Luna Park evaluated what rides you can go in is by your hight and as such they have a pricing system set up by hight.  They offer some great value day passes and an annumal Pass for jut $99.

    • Green Ticket 106cm-129com   $29.95
    • Red Ticket 85cm – 105cm       $19.95

How to get there:

  • Train: Luna Park is an easy 5 minute walk from the Milsons Point Train Station which is only one stop from the CBD and is located on both the Northern Line, the North Shore Line and the Western Line
  • Bus: A number of North Shore bus routes pass nearby Luna Park and stop at both North Sydney Station and Milsons Point.
  • Coaches: may drop off and pick up passengers at North Sydney Pool at the bottom of Alfred St South and Olympic Drive. Coach parking is available at Henry Lawson Avenue which is located at the end of Blues Point Road.
  • Ferries: There are regular services to and from Circular Quay on the following routes; Darling Harbour/East Balmain, Woolwich/Balmain and Parramatta.  Matilda also run direct services to Luna Park wharf on board the Rocket Express for fuerther information visit   www.matilda.com.au .
  • Please Note: Luna Park Wharf is also available for charter vessels to drop off and pick up, subject to prior permission and license from Luna Park Sydney.
  • Parking: Luna Park has just under 400 car spaces available for parking.  With fee ranging from $7 for under and hour up to $32 for 4 hours +

Sydney Activities - Australian Reptile Park2) The Australian Reptile Park and Wildlife Sanctuary

About: The Reptile Park located less then an hours north of Sydney is a fantastic place to visit and is a real hands on experience where you can do things like get a photo with a wombat, koala or even a python (snake) for those a little more game!  You get the opportunity to see the rare experience of witnessing the milking of venomous snakes and funnel web spiders.  Everyday the park does this as it is committed to its program of being the sole supplier of a variety of venoms to make anti-venom and every year helps save over 300 live with the anit-venom produced through this program.

Some of the other things the park has to offer:

  • Hand feed friendly kangaroos

Car:The Australian Reptile Park is located at Somersby on Sydney’s Central Coast, close to the Sydney-Newcastle Expressway, which is less than one hour north of Sydney Harbour Bridge or south of Newcastle.  Parking available at park.

Coach: Their are a number of companies which do tours up through the region including the Reptile Park and Hunter Valley.

Train: Trains Depart from Central Station at both  7.52am & 8.16am on weekdays and 7.47am & 8.17am on weekends. You can also catch a train from from Wynyard, change at Hornsby. Alight at Gosford Railway Station.  If traveling by you are entitled to a 25% discount off admission price at the park gate if you show your taxi service receipt from Central Coast Taxis – Ph 131 008

About: If you are looking for a fun day out that is educational as well then you can’t go past the Sydney Aquarium, with over 12,000 aquatic animals from 650 species from around the world it is truly spectacular.  As you wander through the underwater tunnel you will be amazed as you gaze into a different world.

So of the amazing underwater that you can see are: sharks, rare dugongs, elusive platypuses, beautiful seahorses, giant turtles, jellyfish, thousands of tropical fish, gigantic stingrays, and much, much more.

They also have educational talks about these different subjects and time:

  • Ferries: There are regular services to and from Circular Quay on the following routes; Darling Harbour/East Balmain, Woolwich/Balmain and Parramatta.  5- 10 minutes walk from Circular Quay.
  • Parking: Pay only $10 for the day to park in Sydney at these secure car parks: 383 Kent St,  2 Market St, and 321 Kent St
  • Walk: 5-10 minute walk from CBD down Market Street or King Street.

Sydney Activities - Sydney Observatory4) Sydney Observatory

About: Sydney Observatory is located on a hill now known as ‘Observatory Hill’ in an area in the centre of Sydney. The site evolved from a fort built on ‘Windmill Hill’ in the early 19th century to an astronomical observatory during the nineteenth century. It is now a working museum where evening visitors can observe the stars and planets through a modern 40 cm schmidt-cassegrain telescope and a historic 29 cm.

The Sydney Observatory has sessions both during the day and during the night.  Each of the different session times gives you a unique and fascinating perspective on the stars and the universe we live in.

Night Telescope Session: Includes a stunning 3D space movie as well as time to explore the astronomy and meteorology exhibit. Booked night telescope viewing sessions take place regardless of the weather. In the case of unclear viewing conditions, the telescope viewing session is replaced with a fun session in our beanbag planetarium. bookings are essential and charges apply.

Day Telescope Session: Includes a stunning 3D space movie as well as time to explore the astronomy and meteorology exhibit. Things to Bring:

  • Camera (flash cameras will NOT work)
  • Food and drink; there is a vending machine on the premise which has a limited amount of snacks and drinks available.  You are welcome to bring your own food and picnic on the grounds.  There are a number of cafe around the area but they are a 10 minute walk.
  • ATM – There are no ATM’s at the observatory

 

How to get there:

Please note when taking public transport that the Sydney Observatory is located on the top of Observatory Hill in the middle of the park so you will be required to walk up the hill.

  • Train: A short easy walk from Wynyard Station, York Street exit from .
  • Bus: Take buses on routes 431, 432, 433, 308, 339 and 343 to Millers Point and stop at the bottom of Watson Road in Argyle Street. Services on routes 431 and 432 which travel along George Street to Millers Point are the most frequent.
  • Ferries: From Circular Quay, walk north along George Street to Argyle Street, through the Argyle Cut and up the steps opposite the Garrison Church. Continue up Watson Road and walk through Observatory Park.
  • Parking: Visitors can either park in Watson Road or Argyle Street both of which are metered. The Observatory is then only a short walk up Watson Road and through the Observatory Hill Park.Onsite parking is not available except when booked for persons with a disability by calling 9921 3485 to make a booking.
